From One Stand to Many Stories: My We Make Future Experience

There are events you can explain.

And then there are events you need to experience.

WMF - We Make Future in Bologna was definitely one of those.

Three days surrounded by innovation, ideas, AI, startups, creators, tech professionals, entrepreneurs, companies, conversations, demos, questions, energy, and that special kind of chaos that only a huge international fair can create.

And this year, I was there in a different way.

Not just as a visitor.

Not just as someone attending talks, walking around, collecting ideas, and meeting people.

I was there with my own stand.

With my material.

And honestly?

It felt exciting.

But also strange.

When you arrive at a fair like We Make Future and you see the scale of it all (the exhibitors, the stages, the brands, the startups, the lights, the people moving everywhere) there is a moment when you look around and think:

“Ok… this is big.”

And then another voice quietly asks:

“Do I really belong here?”

That little voice is familiar.

It is the same voice many professionals hear before speaking in a meeting in English.

Before introducing themselves at a networking event.

Before asking a question in front of others.

Before presenting an idea to an international team.

Before saying, “Hi, I’m Daniele, and this is what I do.”

But then something happens.

Someone stops at your stand.

You start a conversation.

They ask a question.

You ask one back.

They tell you about their work, their role, their team, their challenges, their ideas, their goals.

And suddenly, it is no longer about “belonging”.

It is about connecting.

That was probably the most beautiful part of We Make Future for me.

Yes, the event was huge.

Yes, the atmosphere was full of technology, innovation, business, AI, digital, and future-focused conversations.

But behind all of that, there were people.

Professionals trying to communicate better.

Founders trying to explain their ideas more clearly.

Tech people thinking about international growth.

Teams working across countries.

Non-native speakers dealing with meetings, presentations, interviews, and workplace conversations in English.

People with brilliant skills who sometimes just need better words, more confidence, and a clearer way to express what they already know.

And that is exactly why being there mattered so much to me.

My stand gave me the chance to meet many amazing professionals, listen to their stories, understand their needs, and have real conversations about communication, confidence, English, leadership, and professional growth.

Some people gave me incredible support, like Sofia Vicedomini.

Some people stopped for a quick chat but shared all their energy, like Michel Murabito

Some fellow exhibitors shared the space with me (Alessandro Morandi , Marco Finotti ) and I want to thank them for the conversation, the exchanges... and the coffee!

Some stayed for a longer conversation, and it was a pleasure to hear news about technology from Antonio Miucci.

And it was nice to meet Federico Visioli in person after chatting on LinkedIn.

And every conversation reminded me of something important:

Communication is not just a skill you use after the “real work” is done.

Communication is part of the work.

Especially in tech.

Especially in international environments.

Especially when your ideas are valuable, but you need other people to understand them, trust them, and act on them.

That is why events like We Make Future are so powerful.

They are not only about seeing what the future will look like.

They are about meeting the people who are building it.

And sometimes, the most meaningful moments do not happen on a stage.

They happen in a quick conversation at a stand.

In a spontaneous introduction.

In a shared challenge.

In the moment someone says, “I know exactly what you mean.”

By the end of the three days, I was tired.

Very tired.

But also incredibly grateful.

Grateful for every person who stopped by.

Grateful for every conversation.

Grateful for the professionals who shared their stories, doubts, goals, and ideas with me.

Grateful for the opportunity to bring Hack Your English into such an inspiring international space.

And grateful for the reminder that sometimes confidence does not come before you start.

Sometimes confidence comes because you start.

We Make Future was intense, energising, inspiring, and meaningful.

And it reminded me once again that when we show up, start conversations, and lead with curiosity, we usually find more connection than fear.

Thank you to everyone who came to say hello.

It was a real privilege to be there.
